   Do you want to know how to get bigger muscles?  If you’re a body builder then the chances are good that it constantly consumes your thoughts.  There are a few tricks that the pros use that involve a little common sense and some ingenuity.

   First of all, you have to understand the reason why muscles get bigger.  You might have heard it all before but it definitely bears repeating.  When you do weight training the muscles tear and strain.  When you go into a period of rest they repair themselves, and get a bit bigger each time as long as everything else is in order (i.e. you’re eating enough calories and protein for example).

   Many people miss the next step, and it is a little advanced.  When you’re first starting out you have to focus on increasing the strength of your core.  You need to have a strong midsection, legs, and back before you can move on to isolate different muscles.

   When you reach that point, it’s time to get massive!  You need to progressively increase the strain you put on individual muscles and muscle groups.  When your muscles get the time to rest they kind of “reset” themselves to prepare for the increased strain.  You could say that they have memory.

   Over time you should be increasing the amount of weight you use as well as the amount of work you do to that muscle.  The cycle will continue and allow you to rest that muscle and repeat the process over again.  Many pros also recommend doing a smaller amount of repetitions so that you can handle the increased weight and strain on your muscles.

   Just like with anything, this is a very individual process.  If you’re just starting out body building you’ll want to have a different, whole body focused plan.  It’s not until you get to the more advanced stages that you can really kick your training into high gear.
